KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island swimmer Caitlin Guccione has been named the recipient of URI's 2020 Winifred B. Keaney Award.
Voted on by athletic department staff members, the Keaney Award recognizes the most outstanding graduating female student-athlete who has been a role model in his collegiate career and has maintained good academic standing.
A team captain as a senior, Guccione is the Rhode Island record holder in the 100-yard and 200-yard butterfly event. She is part of a third program record, as she is on the record-holding 400-yard medley relay team for the Rams.
Guccione was highly decorated on the team, winning Rhody's Beth Iacobucci Award as the program's Highest Point Scorer; the Julia Chillicki Award as the team's Most Valuable Performer; and the Christine Sleger Award as URI's Performer of the Meet for the Atlantic 10 Championship.
A three-time member of the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll, Guccione graduated with bachelor degrees in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science. This summer she will complete her master's degree in Applied Mathematic and next fall she will begin work toward a Ph.D. in Bioinformatics & Systems Biology at University of California San Diego.
