Chris Francoeur and
Jordan Brajcich gave Rhode Island its best 1-2 finish in 18 years, placing third and sixth, respectively, at the Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Championship. The three-day event concluded Sunday afternoon at the Reunion Golf Club in Orlando.
As a team, Rhode Island was fourth in the team standings. Davidson was the lone team to shoot under par for the tournament, shooting a minus-5 and finishing nine strokes ahead of the field. Dayton (+4) and VCU (+6) were the only other schools ahead of Rhode Island (+10).
Francoeur led Rhode Island with a minus-1 215 for the tournament, which placed him in a tie for third place in the 51-player field. Dayton's Henry May took individual medalist honors by finishing with a 6-under 210. He was one stroke ahead of Davidson's Alex Ross (5-under 211). VCU's Joe Retford tied Francoeur in the individual standings.
Brajcich finished in a tie for sixth place in the individual standings for the Rams. Like Francoeur, Brajcich spent the entire weekend among the leaders. The last time Rhode Island had two golfers among the top six at the league championship was 2004, when David Spitz was second and Kenneth Fahey placed fifth.
Rhode Island's third score came from
Bryson Richards, who placed 22nd overall. On the final day, Richards shot even par to move up six spots in the individual standings. The fourth counting score was provided by
Brandon Gillis, who finished 25th in the individual standings.
