Men's Soccer Hosts Central Connecticut on Monday Night

The URI-CCSU Series

  • Central Connecticut leads: 1-0-2
  • Last meeting: URI and CCSU played to a 1-1 draw, in New Britain, Conn., on Sept. 17, 2019. 
  • Rhode Island's last win: N/A
  • Of Note: Despite being located just 85 miles from one another, Rhody and Central Connecticut have met just three times before - in 2019, 1989 and 1988.

Rhode Island

  • The Rams opened the 2021 season at home on Thursday night, falling to Hofstra 2-0.
  • Stefan Schmidt made four saves in the loss while, as a team, URI put just three shots on goal. 
  • URI returned 14 players from last year's team, which went 2-3-1 overall and 1-2-1 in the Atlantic 10.
  • Eight new players have joined the team this year - three internationals and five Americans.
  • Rhody was picked to finish seventh in the 2021 A-10 preseason coaches poll.
  • Schmidt was the lone Ram - as well as the lone goalkeeper - named to the league's preseason all-conference team.
  • Last year, six different players combined to score the Rams' nine goals. Five of those six players are back this season, including Patrick Agyemang, who recorded a team-best eight points (2g/4a), and Hugo Guerra, who scored a team-high three goals.

Central Connecticut

  • Monday's game at Rhode Island will be CCSU's first of the season.
  • The Blue Devils were picked to finish seventh in the Northeast Conference this season.
  • Last season, CCSU went 3-3-1 - their first .500 season since 2013.
  • Central Connecticut welcomed 10 new players to the team this season - six freshmen and four transfers).
  • Similar to Rhody, the Blue Devils have a strong Scandinavian presence on the team with three Norwegians and one Swede.
  • Kacper Skonieczny led the team in scoring last year with three goals. 
  • Sean Gannon had the most points, recording seven total (2g/3a)
  • Goalkeeper Jason Dubrovich played every minute of every game this past spring, posting a 1.38 goals against average and two shutouts.
