Rhode Island men's track and field started the New Year strong with its first meet of 2022 hosting the Sorlien Invite Saturday.

Highlights from the Competition

• Jack Reichenbach won the high jump with a mark of 2.08 meters. The jump is the eighth-best mark all-time. Ryan Tona was eighth (1.86m) and John Santos finished 16th (1.81m).
• Rhody had two of the top three finishers in the long jump, with Garrett Robinson placing second (6.84m) and Reichenbach finishing third (6.80m).
• Derek Jacobs won the shot put with a throw of 17.12 meters for fifth-best all-time. Chris Tavarone was fourth (14.78m), Nick Morse was sixth (14.51m), and Devin Donahue finished 14th (13.73m).
• Johnathan Buchanan won the weight throw with a mark of 20.28 meters, a throw that sits second-best all-time. Jide Akinjisola threw 18.85 meters for second place, and Derek Jacobs had a mark of 16.91 meters for eighth. 
• Devin Donahue finished sixth in the 60 meter hurdle finals, crossing the finish line in 8.42 seconds.
• Jolon O'Connor placed third in the 60 meter finals with a time of 6.89 seconds (third best all-time). Liam Creeley was fifth (7.04s) and Jordan Ross finished seventh (7.08s).
• Creeley placed third in the 200 meters in 22.57 seconds. Julian Thomson (22.76s), Robert Hauser (23.05s) and Ross (23.08s) finished fifth, sixth, and seventh.
• In the 400 meters, Derek Chalmers was 16th (53.46s).
• Collin Ochs placed second in the 500 meters in 1:06.31. CJ Kiviat was fourth (1:07.11) and Kellen Waters finished seventh (1:08.42).
• Tyler Rubush placed third in the 800 meter with a time of 1:58.01.
• Waters was fourth in the mile in 4:11.99, and Rubush finished fifth with a time of 4:12.29. Both times were top-10 finishes all-time. The mark by Waters is sixth-best and Rubush was seventh all-time.
• In the 1000 meter, Aidan Kindopp finished 12th (2:34.98).
• Mason Brubaker was fourth in the pole vault (4.35m).
