How It Happened
Rhode Island divers Marta Baumann and Lily Hsu qualified for the 2023 NCAA Division I Zones with their respective performances in the 1-meter dive to help the Rams defeat Providence 192-88 Wednesday night.

Baumann and Hsu finished 1-2 in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events, accounting for two of URI's 12 victories in 15 events. The duo combined for 26 of the 29 team points Rhode Island picked up in the dives.

In the 1-meter event, Baumann had a score of 275.33, just ahead of Hsu's score of 272.85. Both women locked up a spot at the Zone A competition that will be held at West Virginia University from March 6-8. Baumann qualified for zones for the second year in a row.

In the 3-meter dive, Baumann had a winning score of 250.28, just edging Hsu tally of 250.05. Teammate Carleigh Schlissel gave Rhode Island a 1-2-3 sweep with her score of 245.10.

Standouts From the Pool

• The team of Julia Renna, Ella Hacker, Hannah Benavides and Abby Zadorozny started off the wire-to-wire victory by winning the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:49.93.
• The relay win started a strong of five straight victories for the Rams, as Mia Bonvissuto (200-yard freestyle), Renna (50-yard backstroke), Emily Makin (50-yard breaststroke) and Zadorozny (100-yard butterfly) all won in succession.
• Makin added two more individual wins. She and Benavides finished 1-2 in the 100-yard breaststroke, and then Makin, Aimee Garcia, Sarah Koenig and Casey Fusco posted the four fastest times in the 100-yard individual medley.
• Rylee Kelly, Shauna Killane and Sydney Joyce swept the top three spots in the 500-yard freestyle.
• Ella Hacker won the 50-yard butterfly by just .02 seconds over teammate Julia Renna. Hacker had a time of 27.20 seconds, compared to 27.22 for Renna.
• The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Lyndsey Warner, Mia Bonvissuto, Abby Zadorozny and Camryn Kreuscher capped the night with a victory in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Rhode Island is off until Friday, Nov. 18 when it hosts the three-day Harold Anderson Invitational.
