Rhode Island (-3) is in second place after the opening round of the Atlantic 10 Championship, one stroke behind VCU (-4), which leads the field of 11.
Davidson (-2), George Mason (+3) and St. Bonaventure (+3) round out the top-5.
The Rams combined for 16 first-round birdies.
Rhody will tee off at 9 a.m. on Saturday, alongside VCU and Davidson.

Individual Results

Junior Bryson Richards, redshirt senior Brandon Gillis and senior Austin Fox are in a six-way tie for fourth place at 1-under (71).
Fox was 2-over on the front nine, but had four birdies on the back nine to get to 1-under.
Richards and Gillis each birdied three holes.
Redshirt senior Jordan Brajcich is even through the first 18 holes. The first-round 72 puts him in a 10-way tie for 10th place.
Junior Andrew DiPetrillo is tied for 54th place with a 14-over 86. He was +3 through the front nine and went 11-over on the back nine.

One round does not make a tournament, but it is nice to be in the final group.
We had a great day of prep on Wednesday and then a good three hours after the pre-tournament round to work on short game. It clearly paid off.
Austin Fox was an emotional leader for us today. The guys were so excited that he was playing so well and they rallied around him. He put the wind in our sails today.

The Rams return to Reunion for Round Two action, Saturday morning.
