Rams Make First Trek to Siena to Open Season Saturday

KINGSTON, R.I.
- Rhode Island opens the 2023-24 season at Siena Saturday afternoon. The meet begins at 12:30 p.m.

While the meet is the season opener for the Rams, Siena is coming off a 181-107 victory over Iona last weekend. The Saints won 13 of the 16 individual events.

Series History - Rhode Island vs. Siena
  • Rhode Island and Siena are meeting for the second consecutive season.
  • Last year was the first time the teams met, and Rhode Island won 149.5-107.5 as part of a tri-meet that also included Assumption.
  • Current sophomores Rylee Kelly and Emily Makin each won a pair of individual events for Rhode Island. Kelly won both the 1000- and 500-yard freestyle races, while Makin took the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke events.
  • In the 1000 free, Kelly was nearly 14 seconds ahead of the field with her time of 10:57.66. The second-place finisher had a time of 11:11.03.
  • The performance led to Kelly earning Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honors.
  • Current sophomore Ella Hacker won the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 2:09.68, nearly five seconds in front of the field.
  • Siena finished fourth in the 2023 MAAC Championship.
  • Diver Talia Spenziero is the reigning 1-meter champion in the MAAC.
  • Saturday will be Siena's Breast Cancer Awareness Meet.
