How It Happened
Host Providence pulled off a wire-to-wire victory over Rhode Island Wednesday, beating the Rams 157-124.

The Friars took first and third place in the opening event of the night, the 200 Medley Relay, for a 13-4. Rhody's Rylee Kelly got her first victory on the night when she took first in the 200 Freestyle, helping URI (3-1) close the gap to 21-15 after two events. Kelly did the honors in the 200 SC Meters when she just edged out PC's Natalia Roback with her time of 2:10.03, winning by .09 of a second.

Rhode Island had the momentum midway through the match, thanks to results in the 1-meter dive and 100 Freestyle. Lily Hsu won the diving event by nearly 50 points over the field with her score of 299.18 as URI outscored the Friars 14-5 in the event. That was followed by Kelly winning again, this time in the 100 free, helping Rhody outscore PC, 10-9.

At that point, URI had pulled within four points at 77-73. Providence won the next four events, opening a 136-90 lead to help secure the team victory.

The win by Providence snapped an 18-meet win streak for Rhode Island in the head-to-head series, dating back to January of 1996.
