KINGSTON, R.I. - The Rhode Island women's indoor track & field program kicked off the 2024 portion of its slate with competition at the UMass Flagship Invitational.
The Minutemen hosted the event at The Track at New Balance on Sunday, marking the second time this season the Rams have competed at the venue. The team was previously in action there for the Suffolk Relays on Dec. 2.
URI's day was highlighted by a slew of personal bests and efforts that cracked the program's all-time top 10. Lily Saul finished fourth in her Mile debut with a sophomore class record of 4:56.70, good for fifth all-time at Rhody. Hanna O'Connor, who finished fifth in the 1000, moved to eighth in program history with a time of 2:53.68. Jacqueline Edoro also achieved the feat, placing fifth in the triple jump while becoming the sixth-best individual at Rhode Island (11.75m).
Highlights
- Sydney Federico paced the Rams in the 400 meter, placing 10th with a time of 58.71. She also led the team in the 200 meter, crossing the line in 25.59 to finish 15th.
- Laurel Filiberto was just off a top-10 pace in the 500 meter, finishing 11th with a time of 1:22.85.
- Rhode Island had three top-15 finished in the 800 meter, thanks to Elise LePage (11th, 2:19.22), Lilly Pitta's (14th, 2:22.06) and Linsey Arends (15th, 2:22.94).
- Erin Hurley nearly joined Saul in the top 10 of the Mile, finishing 11th with a time of 5:08.54.
- Teammates Molly Sabia and Sofia Piccone ran a tight 3000 meter event, finishing less than five seconds apart. Sabia (10:13.69) was 14th, while Piccone was 15th (10:18.40).
- Virsavia Goretoy placed 14th in the 60 Hurdles with a time of 9.22, just 0.05 seconds ahead of a 16th-place Edoro.
- The quartet of Saul, Amy Santana, Edoro and Goretoy ran to a sixth-place finish in the 4 x 400 relay (3:58.16).
- Alexis Carr and Josie Allred represented URI in the high jump, finishing 22nd and 25th respectively.
- Sarah Parr placed a team-best 12th in the pole vault with a mark of 10'8".
- Goretoy and Kayla Clark competed in the long jump, landing 21st and 39th respectively.
- Megan Wood was just off a top-three finish in the shot put, coming in at fourth with a 13.18m throw. Alyssa Yankee's 12.10m effort was good for eighth.
- Erynn Field was seventh in the weight throw with a mark of 16.40m.
