800 Freestyle Relay Win Spurs Rhody on First Day of Anderson Invitational

Day 1 Results

KINGSTON, R.I. –
Rhode Island took two of the top six spots in the 800-yard Freestyle Relay to buoy itself into first place after one day of competition at the Harold Anderson Invitational Thursday night.

The team of Rylee Kelly, Avery Potyrala, Emma Raser and Abby Zadorozny pulled out a thriller to win the 800 Free Relay. The Ram team touched the wall just .55 seconds ahead of the team Vermont to win the race. Rhody won in a time of 7:31.38 to claim 40 team points.

The quartet of Ella Hacker, Emma Lee, Quinn Frost and Julianna Tyler posted a time of 7:39.95 to claim sixth place in the event. Their finish was two spots ahead of Vermont's second finish in the event. With the sixth-place finish, URI added 26 more team points.

URI outscored Vermont 66-56 in the event, allowing Rhody to finish the day with 128 points. Vermont is in second place with 122 points, followed by Holy Cross (90), Maine (78) and Wagner (76) in the top five.

Rhode Island's depth also showed in the 200-yard medley relay, where the Rams finished in third and fourth place. Vermont won the meet's first event with a time of 1:43.91, followed by Wagner in a time of 1:44.32. The URI team of Jackie Triglia, Hannah Benavides, Ella Hacker and Quinn Frost took third place with a time of 1:45.96, followed by teammates Julia Havice, Gracie Maughan, Julianna Tyler and Abby Zadorozny in a time of 1:46.36. The back-to-back finishes in the race gave Rhody 62 team points, while Vermont scored 66 points with a first- and sixth-place finish.

Friday's slate of events includes the 500 Freestyle, 200 Individual Medley, 50 Freestyle, 200 Freestyle Relay and 3-meter Diving.
