RHODE ISLAND VS. CENTRAL CONNECTICUT STATE - SERIES NOTES
  • Rhode Island and Central Connecticut State are meeting for the fourth time.
  • The Rams have won each of the previous three meetings, including an 81-70 victory on Nov. 6 of last season.
  • Guard Jaden House had 25 points and three steals in the game, which was the season opener a year ago.
  • Forward David Fuchs added 10 points and four rebounds in what was his collegiate debut.
  • Sunday's game will feature two of the five U.S. Basketball Writer's Association National Players of the Week from last week.
  • Rhody point guard Sebastian Thomas averaged 19.5 points, 5.0 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists in two wins for the Rams.
  • CCSU's Devin Haid averaged 15.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steal per game in road wins over Massachusetts and Holy Cross.
  • Central Connecticut State is facing its third Atlantic 10 opponent of the season. In addition to beating UMass 73-69 on Dec. 4, the Blue Devils won 73-67 at Saint Joseph's on Nov. 8.
  • Rhode Island and CCSU have both played Providence and Holy Cross. Rhody went 2-0 in the games, while CCSU beat Holy Cross and was edged 59-55 in its season opener by Providence.
  • CCSU will be playing its sixth road game out of 10 contests on Sunday.
  • Rhode Island will be playing its eighth home game in 11 contests.
  • Central Connecticut State is one of the most disciplined defensive teams in the country. The Blue Devils get called for just 11.9 fouls per game, the second lowest average in the country. Only Creighton (10.7) gets whistled less often.

RAMS OFF AND RUNNING

  • Since taking over the program three years ago, head coach Archie Miller has stressed wanting to play fast and pressure the ball.
  • That is coming to fruition this season, as Rhode Island entered the weekend ranked 13th in the country with 17.4 fastbreak points per game.
  • Five times this season the Rams have scored at least 20 fastbreak points.
  • Last season, Rhode Island ranked 213th in the country with just 9.06 fastbreak points per game.
  • URI also is averaging 13.5 points off turnovers per game.

RAMS LEAD THE ATLANTIC 10 IN SCORING

  • Rhode Island is averaging 86.6 points per game, which leads the Atlantic 10 and ranks 15th in the country.
  • This is a 14.0-point improvement from last season, when the Rams averaged 72.6 points per game, which ranked 204th nationally.
  • One of the biggest differences this season is at the free throw line, where Rhode Island is scoring 21.3 points per game this season.
  • A year ago, URI averaged 14.4 free throws per game.
  • Rhody is on pace to make more than 650 free throws this season, a mark the program has reached just once  before.
  • The 1987-88 team made 677 free throws, the only time the Rams even topped 600 in a season.
  • Four players are averaging double-digit scoring for Rhode Island - guard Sebastian Thomas (17.3 points/game); forward David Green (16.5); guard Jaden House (12.2) and guard Jamarques Lawrence (11.1).
  • Center Javonte Brown is just below double figures, scoring 9.8 points per game.
  • The only game Rhode Island has not scored at least 80 points was its 69-63 win over Providence.
  • Last year, the Rams scored 80+ points eight times in 32 games.
