KINGSTON, R.I. - Following the first day of competition at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Track & Field Championship, Rhode Island Women's Track & Field sits in sixth place.
The Rams scored points in six different events and qualified for finals in four others to set themselves up. With a score of 21 points, the Rams sit just ahead of seventh-place Davidson (19 points) and within reach of both fifth-place Duquesne (22 points) and fourth-place Richmond (24 points).
The action was highlighted by a pair of fourth-place finishes, as Katelyn Welsh did so in the pole vault and
Jacqueline Edoro achieved the feat in the pentathlon. Welsh cleared 12' 1/4" and Edoro scored 3257 to add five points apiece to URI's total.
Highlights
- Molly Sabia turned in a personal best in the 5K, crossing the line in 17:21.98 to finish sixth and score three points.
- The Distance Medley Relay team of Elise LePage, Amyah Santana, Erin Hurley and Madeline Till finished sixth (12:07.87) in a highly-competitive race that saw two quartets surpass the previous conference record.
- Megan Wood placed seventh in the weight throw to collect two points (55' 7 1/4").
- Caroline Larkin cleared 11' 4 1/2" in the pole vault, good for a seventh-place finish and two points.
- Virsavia Goretoy scored a point in the long jump thanks to her eighth-place leap (17' 10 1/2").
- Lily Saul won her flight in the 800m to qualify for Saturday's finals. Her time of 2:13.01 was the second-fastest of the day.
- Hanna O'Connor qualified for the 1000m final with a time of 2:55.69.
- Sydney Federico placed fifth in the 500m prelims (1:16.57) to qualify for Saturday's final.
- Goretoy secured a spot in the 60m Hurdles final for the first time in her career (eighth, 8.98).Â
