Game Notes

Schedule Change

  • Originally scheduled to play Friday, March 15 through Sunday, March 17, both head coaches agreed to shuffle the games around on Thursday morning.
  • The Rams will make the trip to Boston on Friday for a 2 p.m. game and return home to host the Huskies on Saturday for an 11 a.m. doubleheader.
  • Each of Saturday's games will be nine innings. The second contest will start approximately 45 minutes after completion of the first.

Series Notes

  • Friday's game in Kingston will be the 110th in the series between Rhode Island and Northeastern, which dates back to 1921.
  • In the 103-year history between the two New England programs, URI has earned a 64-45 all-time advantage.
  • Despite Rhody's overall edge, the teams have split the last 10 games going back to 2012.
  • Northeastern has won three of the last four, outscoring the Rams 26-21 in the spread.
  • Rhody's lone win in that four-game span was an 8-0 shutout during a midweek game in 2019. It was one of two shutouts that the staff threw that season, joining a 4-0 victory over Atlantic 10 foe Davidson (April 14).
  • A win for Rhode Island would be its first since that outing, while a win for the Huskies would be their third straight in the series.
  • Northeastern has not won three straight in the teams' shared history since doing so in 2007-08.

Reece the Rookie

  • Freshman Reece Moroney has broken onto the scene in his first season with the Rams.
  • Moroney has started all 12 games at shortstop and singled in his first collegiate plate appearance. He is batting .318 to start the year with six RBI.
  • The Fair Haven, N.J. native is currently on a six-game streak of reaching base safely and has at least one base hit in each of his last four.
  • He belted out his first career home run during the series at No. 4 Texas A&M, a solo shot that nearly helped Rhode Island topple the Aggies.
  • Moroney will look to continue URI's history of freshmen success as current Rams Michael Anderson (2023) and Anthony DePino (2022) were both named Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-Americans.
  • Anderson was both an Atlantic 10 Second Team and All-Rookie Team honoree a year ago and earned conference rookie of the week honors three times.
  • In head coach Raphael Cerrato's tenure, five players have been named Freshman All-Americans: Chris Hess (2015), Tyler Wilson (2015) and Vitaly Jangols (2017).

Baseball Announces Fundraising Partnership with Hasbro Children's Hospital

  • Rhody Baseball has partnered with Hasbro Children's Hospital, located 45 minutes away in Providence, to raise money for the hospital during the 2024 season.
  • Throughout the year, every Rhody strikeout, win, hit, home run and stolen base will contribute directly to the children's hospital.
  • The fundraiser consists of five different pledge levels, with dollar amounts attached to each of the aforementioned statistical categories.
  • Juniors Eric Genther and Anthony DePino spearheaded the effort, working with sport administrator Jeff Johnson and members of the Hasbro Children's Hospital administration to organize the fundraiser.
  • Updates concerning the Rams' progress on the field and in their fundraising efforts will be provided on the team's social media channels throughout the year.
  • Fans interested in contributing to this great cause through a pledge or a one-time gift can do so HERE.
