KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island Women's Track & Field finished second out of 28 teams at the 2024 New England Indoor Championship.
The Rams accumulated 113 points to hold off third-place Quinnipiac (81.66), but fell just shy of overtaking Massachusetts for the crown.Â
Rhody had a trio of event wins to bolster its score, taking home the triple jump, the 800m and the 4x800m.
Jacqueline Edoro was victorious in the triple jump with a mark of 38' 1 1/4" while
Elise LePage captured the 800m run in 2:13.89. The quartet of
Olivia Skapczynski,
Erin Hurley,
Linsey Arends and Zoe Catrambone led the field by nearly 10 seconds (9:20.70) to capture the relay.Â
Additionally, URI was represented at the 2024 ECAC Indoor Track & Field Championship on Saturday afternoon.
Erynn Field finished sixth in the weight throw (52' 10") and
Lily Saul qualified for Sunday's 800m final by winning her heat (2:10.12).Â
Highlights
- Megan Wood was second in the shotput with a 45' 9 3/4" toss. Teammate Alyssa Yankee (41' 4 1/4") finished fourth.Â
- Madeline Till placed second in the 1000m, coming across in 2:56.91. She was joined in the scoring by Corina Vidal (fourth, 2:58.41), Lindsay Turegon (fifth, 2:59.37), Leyla Kvaternik (eighth, 3:10.80).Â
- Virsavia Goretoy was third in the 60 hurdles, crossing in 8.72 seconds.Â
- Sydney Federico ran a 1:15.47 in the 500m to place third.
- Sofia Piccone crossed the finish line fourth in the 3000m at 10:00.86. Daniella Napoli (sixth, 10:23.48) and Sophia DiMuccio (seventh, 10:26.57) also collected points.
- Goretoy, Amyah Santana, Edoro and Federico placed fifth in the 4x400m Relay (3:54.26).Â
