Day One Results
ORLANDO, Fla. – Rhode Island struggled out of the gate and finished the opening day of the 2024 Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Championship well out of contention Friday.
VCU took a commanding lead on the field, finishing the day 11 strokes under par. It had three of the four lowest scores on the day, as Ugo Malcor (4-under 68), Mattias Varjun (3-under 69) and Tim Chan (3-under) combined to shoot 10-under for VCU.
Dayton and Davidson both shot even par and are tied for second place. George Washington (+2) is fourth, followed by George Mason and St. Bonaventure, both of which shot plus-seven on the day.
Rhode Island ended the opening round 19-over par, which put URI in ninth place in the team standings. Senior
Geronimo Narizzano was Rhody's top performer on the day at plus-2. He highlighted his day with an eagle on the second hole and a birdie on the 14th, placing 20th on the individual leader board.
Freshman
Josiah Tong (plus-4 76, t-32nd), sophomore
Aidan O'Donovan (plus-5 77, t-40th) and graduate student
Bryson Richards (plus-8 80, t-52nd) were the scorers for Rhode Island. Freshman
Seb Carlsson (plus-9 81, 57th) also competed.
Rhode Island will be paired with La Salle and Richmond in the final five groups to tee off in Round Two on Saturday. URI's players are schedule to begin at 8:15 a.m.

"We got a terrific day from Geronimo who played a lot of very , very good golf. After that we really struggled.

"Unfortunately, we have seen this all year. We start out playing very poorly and take ourselves out of contention. Hopefully the pattern of coming back continues as well."
