KINGSTON, R.I. - The Rhode Island women's track & field team scored nine points on the first day of competition at the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track & Field Championship in Fairfax, Va.
The Rams finished the opening day of action tied with Loyola for 10th in the team standings. Host George Mason (37.5 points), Richmond (32 points) and VCU (26 points) stood at the top of the list.
All of URI's points on Saturday came from field events, with
Erynn Field's fifth-place effort in the hammer throw leading the group (168' 11"). The duo of
Olivia Priest and
Katie Welsh scored in the pole vault, placing sixth and eighth respectively. Both cleared 11' 5 3/4".
Highlights
- Virsavia Goretoy (14.09), Kayla Clark (14.74) and Jacqueline Edoro (14.83) punched their tickets to the 100m Hurdles finals. Goretoy placed second, while Clark and Edoro claimed the final two spots.
- Hanna O'Connor ran a personal best of 4:34.39 to finish fourth in the 1500m prelim. She heads into the final just over two seconds off of a top-three pace.
- Lily Saul won her heat and finished fifth overall to advance to the 800m final (2:10.13).
- Molly Sabia ran a 37:07.76 to finish 14th in the 10000m race.
