Rhode Island vs. William & Mary - Series Notes
  • The Rams and the Tribe have met 14 times heading into Friday's game.
  • William & Mary holds a 10-4 advantage over URI all-time, with the history between the programs dating back to 2008.
  • The last time the teams played another was a three-game series in Williamsburg back in 2022.
  • Rhody was swept by its hosts and outscored 35-16 over the course of the weekend.
  • A win for URI would be the team's first over the Tribe since a 4-3 victory back in 2012.
  • Though Rhode Island is a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference and William & Mary plays in the CAA, both schools' football teams are members of CAA Football.
Meeting the Ram-ily
  • URI returns a core group of veterans in 2024, which it supplemented with an influx of new talent.
  • Pitchers Trystan Levesque and Braeden Perry, who were key parts of the Rams' weekend rotation in 2023, are back from injury and should reclaim their previous roles.
  • Levesque was a NEIBA First Team All-New England honoree in 2023, while Perry landed on the A-10's All-Rookie Team.
  • Hitting-wise, the Rams return four of their top five bats from a year ago in third baseman Anthony DePino, outfielder Eric Genther, outfielder Will Hindle and utility player DJ Perron.
  • DePino, Rhody's career leader in home runs with 45, led Rhode Island with a .290 batting average last season.
  • The Rhode Island roster features 13 new players. The group is made up of 10 true freshmen and three transfers. Outfielder Nic Notarangelo, who played for Endicott from 2021-24, highlights the group.
  • The Taunton, Mass. native led the Gulls to a pair of NCAA Division III College World Series appearances and racked up numerous individual accolades. He was a two-time ABCA All-Region honoree and named to the College World Series All-Tournament Team in 2024.
Season Opener
  • Rhode Island is looking to begin its campaign with a win for the second year in a row.
  • In 2024, the Rams knocked off UTRGV 4-3 in 11 innings.
  • Brody McKenzie robbed what would have been a walk-off, two-run homer for the Vaqueros in the bottom of the ninth when he made an over-the-fence grab in left field. Two innings later, he delivered the game-winner via RBI single.
  • McKenzie's web gem earned him SportsCenter Top 10 honors.
  • In 2023, Rhode Island lost a close game at Sam Houston (3-2) to begin its season.
