Rams Place Fourth at Golfweek NGI

Results

MARICOPA, Ariz.
- Rhode Island placed fourth at the Golfweek National Golf Invitational, bringing its 2025 season to a close Sunday.

The Rams moved up one spot in the team standings on the final day of the 10-team tournament. Ohio State held off Utah State to win the team title. The top two teams in the field shot 8-under par and 2-under par on the final day to pull away from the field.

The Buckeyes finished the tournament 26 strokes under par, while Utah State was 19-under par. Oregon State (minus-7) took third place.

"This was a special event for us in so many ways.  Finishing fourth in this field on a national stage was terrific," Rhode Island head coach Gregg Burke said. "What made it so special was that we played as a team and everyone contributed.

"We came here feeling we were representing New England college golf and in teams like BC, UConn, Harvard, and Yale there is some firepower you don't hear a lot about."

Sophomore Josiah Tong led Rhode Island, tying for 10th place in the 49-player field. Tong sank four birdies on the day and was 1-over for the round, finishing the tournament 2-under. Graduate student Sean Magarian finished in a tie for 17th place, shooting even par over three days.

"In the two biggest tournaments of the year, the Atlantic 10 Championship and the National Golf Invitational, Sean and Josiah really showed up to play," Burke said. "Josiah gave us a tremendous second semester and has established himself firmly in the top three for next year. We got solid rounds from Aidan O'Donovan in each of the final two rounds as well."

O'Donovan shot an even-par 72 on Sunday to move three spots up the leaderboard. He and freshman Luke Stennett were among six players who tied for 28th at 3-over par. Freshman Tyler Bruneau finished six-over par in a tie for 36th place.

"We head into summer play and next fall with four guys who have a lot of experience in Luke, Tyler, Josiah and Aidan," Burke said. "But we have four other guys, including Tony Liu who has started more than half of the tournaments the last two year and Bennett Masterson who has proved himself to play at the highest level on the most important summer tournaments.

"We have the chance to be just as good and maybe better next year."
