KINGSTON, R.I. - Former Rhode Island star Patrick Agyemang continues to make an impact on the international stage, scoring the game-winner in Team USA's 2-1 victory over Haiti in the CONCACAF Gold Cup Group D match Sunday.
After sidestepping the Haitian keeper with a deft touch, Agyemang slipped a left-footed shot across the box into the net. The goal clinched Group D for the Americans, who finished a perfect 3-0 in group play to advance to face Costa Rica in the quarterfinals on Sunday in Minneapolis.
It was the second goal in three matches for Agyemang, who now has five goals in nine career matches for the national team. Agyemang is the only player to appear in all nine matches for Team USA this year. His national team debut came in a 3-1 victory over Venezuela on Jan. 19, when he became the 60th player to score in his Team USA debut.
Agyemang scored 19 goals and had 12 assists over 37 career matches for Rhode Island from 2020-22. He became the highest Major League Soccer draft pick in Rhode Island history when he was selected 12th overall by Charlotte FC in the 2023 MLS SuperDraft. He has since become one of the brightest stars in MLS, recording 17 goals and six assists in 59 matches over three seasons.
Last week, Major League Soccer
released its list of Top 25 selling jerseys in the league. Agyemang has the ninth-highest selling jersey. Inter Miami CF's Lionel Messi has the top-selling jersey.
