KETTERING, Ohio - Play was suspended due to darkness late in the second round of the Moraine Intercollegiate on Monday. Thanks to a monster day from first-year player Jack Quinn, Rhode Island finds itself in the top half of the field heading into Tuesday.

Quinn is 4-under par overall through 17 holes in the second round. Quinn is tied for second place in the 81-player field. In the opening round, he carded four birdies and had just two bogeys.

His second round started with a double bogey on hole No. 15, but from there on, Quinn was brilliant. He had five birdies over his next 16 holes. Quinn is just two strokes being overall leader TJ Kreusch of Dayton.

As a team, Rhode Island is in sixth place out of 16 teams. URI is 10-over par. Fellow Atlantic 10 school VCU (-5) leads the field, followed by Sam Houston (+1), Xavier (+4), Penn State (+5) and Dayton (+5).

Tony Liu finished the day tied for 18th overall. After shooting 3-over in the opening round, he was 1-under in the afternoon, helping him leap 21 spots up the leaderboard.

"We had some great things happen for us out there today even though the results weren't exactly what we wanted," Rhode Island head coach Gregg Burke said. "Tony proved he can play without his best stuff, Jack proved he can handle the one spot, and we got some really good play from Josiah Tong, Seb Carlsson and Owen Rooney."

Josiah Tong is two strokes behind Liu at 4-over par. He is tied for 32nd place. Owen Rooney is 11-over par, while Seb Carlsson is 13-over par. Carlsson shot a solid 3-over in the second round, knocking 10 strokes off his first-round score.

"This is just a great group to be around and even when we haven't scored the way we like. They are all just so positive," Burke said. "Tomorrow is a big day and will go a long way in further defining who we are."

Dayton, Rhode Island, Ohio and Wright State will complete their second round in the morning before all teams will play the third and final round of the tournament.
