KINGSTON, R.I. – Rhode Island was selected to finish eighth in the Atlantic 10 Women's Swimming & Diving Preseason Poll as voted on by the coaches Friday afternoon. The Rams earned 36 points in voting, just four behind St. Bonaventure in seventh.
Richmond was selected first overall with 8 out of 10 available first-place votes. Four-time defending champions George Washington were picked second, seven points behind the Spiders. Duquesne rounded out the top three with 85 points and the remaining two first-place votes.
The Rams return two medalists and a majority of the core group that helped Rhody secure their best finish at the Atlantic 10 Championship in 10 years.
Logan Norrid picked up a bronze medal in the 200-yard breaststroke at the A10 Finals last season. Her time of 2:14.55 was a program record.
Molly Beckwith earned a medal in the 200-yard freestyle race after breaking the program record in the 100-yard butterfly.
Captain
Julianna Tyler added 13 key points in the championship in the 200-yard butterfly with her sixth-place finish. Beckwith, along with
Avery Potyrala and
Mary McCormick, who are both returning, were part of the 800-yard free relay team that set a program record in the competition.
Rhody opens their season next Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Tootell Aquatic Center, when they welcome Siena and Stonehill to campus. The meet is scheduled for 1 PM.
