RHODE ISLAND VS. GEORGE WASHINGTON - SERIES NOTES
  • Rhode Island and George Washington are meeting for the 68th time overall.
  • The Revolutionaries leads the series, 36-31, including a 19-13 edge as the home team.
  • Rhode Island won its most recent visit to the Smith Center, beating GW 88-65 on Feb. 6, 2024.
  • George Washington has won five of the last six games between the teams.
  • Rhode Island has won four of its last five contests, while George Washington has dropped four in a row.
  • URI is 4-3 on the road, while GW is 9-3 at home.
  • George Washington is tied for second in the Atlantic 10 in scoring offense (84.0 points per game) and Rhode Island is fourth in the league in scoring defense (68.1 points per game).
  • The Revolutionaries attempt the most 3-pointers per game in the A-10 (28.5)
  • GW has five players averaging double digits points. Rafael Castro leads the team with 15.9 points per game, followed by Garrett Johnson (13.2), Trey Autry (11.0), Christian Jones (10.4) and Tre Dinkins (10.0).
  • Castro is very active on the boards, averaging 9.0 rebounds per game. He leads the A-10 with 6.29 defensive rebounds per game and is third in the league with 2.67 offensive boards per game.

FREE THROW TRIPS HELP LINE UP WINS

  • As a team, Rhode Island is shooting 72.8 percent at the free throw line.
  • That is tied for the eighth best team single-season percentage in program history.
  • In Archie Miller's first season at the helm, the Rams shot 74.4 percent from the line, giving his squads two of the 10 best single-season free throw percentages in URI history. 
  • In the 31 seasons before Miller arrived, Rhode Island shot 72.0 percent or better from the free throw line just one time.
  • That was in 2006-07, when the Rams shot 72.2 percent from the line  
  • The Rams are 9-1 when they make at least 16 free throws in a game.
  • They have scored 20 or more points at the line seven times this season, including a season-high 34 last time out against Richmond.
  • It was just the 10th time in program history the Rams have made at least 34 free throws in a game. Three of those times have come during Miller's tenure.
  • RJ Johnson (33-for-35, .943);  Jonah Hinton (51-for-62, .823), Tyler Cochran (92-for-122, .754),  Jahmere Tripp (74-for-99, .747) and Myles Corey (44-for-59, .746) have been excellent at the line all season.

RHODY DEFENSE MAKES LIFE DIFFICULT FOR FOES

  • Rhode Island ranks 50th in the country in scoring defense, giving up just 68.1 points per game.
  • The key for the Rams is forcing turnovers. URI creates 14.3 turnovers per game by the opposition, which ranks second in the Atlantic 10 and 43rd nationally.
  • Only Dayton (15.88) forces more turnovers among A-10 teams.
  • Rhode Island is 13-2 when it has fewer turnovers than the opposition, and 1-7 when it loses the turnover battle.
  • URI has held 20 of its 23 opponents below the opposition's season scoring average.
