RHODE ISLAND VS. DUQUESNE - SERIES NOTES

  • Rhode Island and Duquesne will meet for the 69th time overall and the second time this season Wednesday.
  • The Rams lead the series, 36-32.
  • The Dukes have won four straight against URI, including a 76-61 victory in Pittsburgh on Feb. 1.
  • Duquesne got 22 points and nine rebounds from Jimmie Williams in the first meeting.
  • After falling behind by 15 points in the first game, Rhody appeared to rally and cut the lead to 59-55 after a pair of Myles Corey free throws. However, after a Duquesne basket, the referees stopped play and took the Corey free throws off the board. They had Keeyan Itejere go to the line to reshoot the free throws. He made 1-of-2 to make the score 61-54. From there, Duquesne scored nine unanswered points to ice the game.
  • Rhode Island is 21-12 as the home team in the series.
  • Both teams are going into the game looking to snap three-game losing streaks.

FINAL WEEK OF THE REGULAR SEASON

  • Rhode Island has two regular-season games remaining: home against Duquesne and at Fordham on Saturday.
  • The Rams are in 10th place, one game behind both George Washington and Fordham. Rhody currently loses the tiebreaker with both teams, though it has a chance to even the series with Fordham later in the week.
  • In order to pass George Washington in the league standings, Rhode Island needs to win both of its remaining games and have the Revolutionaries lose both of their remaining games.
  • If the Rams win both their remaining games and wind up in a tie with Fordham, Rhody would win the head-to-head tiebreaker there. The first tiebreaker is head-to-head competition, which would be a 1-1 split. The second tiebreaker is conference record of the tied teams based on winning percentage versus the highest common opponent. Rhode Island wins this tiebreaker by virtue of its victory over first-place Saint Louis.
  • If the Rams finish in a three-way tie with GW and Fordham, Fordham would be the highest seed of the three, followed by George Washington and URI.
  • Fordham would be 2-1 combined against GW and URI. George Washington would be 1-1 and Rhode Island would be 1-2 in this scenario.
  • URI is one game ahead of Richmond and holds the tiebreaker with the Spiders, thanks to a 2-0 mark against them this season.
  • Rhode Island would have to lose both its remaining games and Richmond would have to beat Dayton and Duquesne in order for the Spiders to pass URI.
  • Both La Salle and St. Bonaventure would need two wins and two URI losses to catch Rhody in the standings. Both teams own the tiebreakers against the Rams.
