SMITHFIELD, R.I. — Rhode Island finished second at the New England Outdoor Championship Saturday. After 22 scored events, the Rams collected 114 team points. Southern Connecticut State took home the title with 170.5 total points.

Highlights from Competition

• Collin Ochs defended his 800 meter New England Outdoor title with a time of 1:49.97. Eli Baker was fourth (1:51.65).
• Stephen Cirella won the decathlon with 6928 points for his first New England Outdoor crown. He was seventh in the 100m (11.67s), seventh in the long jump (6.24m), first in the shot put (15.96m), first in the high jump (1.93m), ninth in the 400m (55.16s), second in the 110m hurdles (15.71s), first in the pole vault (4.40m), first in the discus (48.15m), first in the javelin (51.02m), and seventh in the 1500m (5:18.54).  
• The 4x800m relay team won in 7:36.31.
• Jolon O'Connor placed second in the 100 meter finals in 10.55 seconds. The time is fifth-best all-time. Nathanial Barjolo finished fifth (10.72s) and Tristen Howard was eighth (20.22s).
• Derek Jacobs was fifth in the shot put (16.89m) and Chris Tavarone finished sixth (16.72m). 
• Jacobs placed third in the discus with a mark of 50.59 meters.
• In the triple jump, Orion Joyner was eighth (14.38m) and John Santos finished ninth (14.32m).
• The 4x100m relay team placed second in 40.74 seconds.
• Tyler Rubush finished fourth in the 1500 meters with a time of 3:49.97.
• Lucas Plaia finished eighth in the 400 meters in 1:19.83.

Friday Finishes

• Lucas Frost placed second in the javelin with a throw of 68.12 meters. Seth Cordeiro was eighth (58.34m), and Nikolaj Freschlin was ninth (57.90m).
• In the hammer, Johnathan Buchanan was fifth (58.89m), Sam Bond was sixth (58.28m), and Jide Akinjisola finished seventh (57.97m).
• Mason Brubaker placed fifth in the pole vault after clearing 4.70 meters.
• Jack Reichenbach had a 6.92-meter leap in the long jump for fifth place. 
• Reichenbach finished fourth in the high jump, marking 2.05 meters. Ryan Tona placed sixth (2.00m).
