Rams Defend A-10 Crown, Win Second Straight A-10 Outdoor Title

RICHMOND, VA. — Rhode Island men's track and field is coming home with more hardware after winning their second straight Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track and Field title Sunday. The Rams have now won four straight Atlantic 10 track and field titles: 2022 Outdoor, 2022 Indoor, 2021 Outdoor, and 2020 Indoor. Rhode Island raked in 184.5 team points, 56.5 points ahead of the competition, en route to its 14th Outdoor crown. Rhody has now won four of the last five A-10 Outdoor Championships. The 2020 outdoor meet was canceled due to COVID-19. At his first A-10 outdoors as head coach of the Rams, Trent Baltzell was named the A-10 Coach of the Year.

Complete Results 

Champions

  • Lucas Frost won the javelin with a mark of 60.53 meters.
  • Sam Bond won the hammer throw with a mark of 58.57 meters.
  • Jack Reichenbach claimed the high jump crown for his first outdoor title after clearing 2.08 meters. The mark matched his personal best. 

Finals

  • Seth Cordeiro and Nikolaj Freschlin both added major points for the Rams in the javelin, with podium finishes of second (59.03m) and third (56.82m) respectively. 
  • The 4x100 meter relay team finished with silver in 41.60 seconds.
  • Tyler Rubush finished fifth in the 1500 meter with a time of 3:56.95. Kellen Waters was 12th (4:01.70) and Eric Zulkofske finished 14th (4:02.46).
  • Kai Schmidt-Bilowith finished eighth in the 110m hurdles final in 14.88 seconds.
  • Jarrett Young placed second to medal in the 400 meter final crossing the finish line in a personal-best time of 48.40 seconds.
  • Tristen Howard had a podium finish in the 100 meter, earning bronze in 10.58 seconds. Nathanial Barjolo finished fifth (10.61s) and Jolon O'Connor was sixth (10.68s). Barjolo's time was a season-best.
  • Collin Ochs placed third in the 800 meters, crossing the finish in 1:54.74.
  • Ben Fleischer ran a personal best in the 5000 meter, finishing in 14:36.18 for eighth. 
  • The 4x800m relay team finished fifth in 7:51.04.
  • Nick Morse placed third in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 16.20 meters. Christopher Tavarone finished fourth (15.82m) and Stephen Cirella was fifth (15.65m). Derek Jacobs also competed for the Rams, finishing eighth with a throw of 15.13m.
  • Jacobs finished fourth in the discus with a mark of 49.26m. Morse was seventh (45.29m) and Tavarone finished 12th (41.17m).
  • Orion Joyner finished fourth in the triple jump with a season-best leap (14.65m). John Santos was 11th (13.19m) and Davon Tate finished 14th (12.09m).
  • The 4x400m relay team was fourth in 3:18.82.

From the Decathlon

  • Devin Donahue placed second in the decathlon with 6664 points. On day two, he won the 110m hurdles (14.94s), finished second in the discus (35.45m), fifth in the pole vault (3.70m), third in the javelin (48.26m), and seventh in the 1500m (5:25.82).
  • Stephen Cirella finished third with 6605 total points. On the second day of competition, he was sixth in the 100m hurdles (15.68s), won the discus (41.78m), the pole vault (4.20m), and the javelin (51.53m), and finished fifth I the 1500m (5:25.75).
  • Ryan Tona was fourth collecting 6343 points. He finished fifth in the 110m hurdles (15.64s), ninth in the discus (24.82m), third in the pole vault (3.80m), fifth in the javelin (44.51m), and won the 1500m (4:54.48) on day two.
  • Wyatt Lamell finished eighth with 5691 points. He was seventh in the 110m hurdles (16.00s), finished third in the discus (33.35m), sixth in the javelin (42.76m) and sixth in the 1500m (5:25.78).
