Record-Setting 200 Freestyle Relay Highlights Day Two of Anderson

KINGSTON, R.I. –
In a thrilling 200-yard Freestyle Relay, Vermont and Rhode Island both broke the previous facility record Friday evening on the second day of the Harold Anderson Invitational.

The Catamounts edged Rhode Island at the wall. The team of Ellie Fazio, Jackie House, Havana Layton and Hally Laney posted a winning time of 1:34.79. That was just .72 seconds faster than URI's quartet of Avery Potyrala, Quinn Frost, Julia Havice and Abby Zadorozny, which finished in 1:35.51. Both teams were ahead of the Tootell Aquatic Center record of 1:35.86 set by Vermont last year.

Both schools had two of the top six times in the event. Vermont also placed fifth, while the Rhode Island team of Ella Hacker, Hannah Benavides, Rylee Kelly and Emma Raser took sixth place.

Vermont won three of the day's five event while scoring 225 team points. The Catamounts moved into first place in the team standings with 334 points. Rhode Island scored 205 team points and have 334 team points. Both teams are well ahead of the field, with Maine (212), Holy Cross (191) and Wagner (163) rounding out the top five.

Rhode Island used a 2-3-4 finish in the 1-meter dive to keep itself close. Lily Hsu scored 17 team points with her second-place finish. She scored a 278.65, followed closely by teammates Anna Petke (272.60, 16 team points) and Olivia Winslow (272.60, 15 team points). Rhody outscored Vermont 48-14 in the event.

Standouts from the Pool
  • Emma Raser led a 2-3-4 finish for Rhode Island in the 200 Individual Medley. Her time of 2:05.17 was just .63 seconds off the pace of Vermont's Hally Laney.
  • Hannah Benavides was third in the race with her time of 2:06.43, while Julianna Tyler was fourth in 2:06.68. The performances helped URI edge Vermont 48-47 in the event.
  • Rylee Kelly scored 16 team points with a third-place finish in the 500 Freestyle. Mary McCormick was ninth in the event (9 points) and Emma Lee added four points with a 13th-place finish.
  • Julia Havice placed fourth in the 50 Freestyle to add 15 points to the team score.
