Day 2 - Results
HAMPTON, Va. – Sophomore
Lily Hsu placed seventh in the 1-meter dive while freshman
Anna Petke placed ninth, combining for 21 team points for Rhode Island on the second day of the 2024 Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championship.
Hsu qualified for the championship final, where she scored 248.40 points to scored 12 team points. It was a big jump from last year's conference meet, where she placed 16th in the 1-meter event. It was the highest finish by a Rhode Island competitor at the conference championship since Nicole Petta placed second in both the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke events.
Petke advanced to the consolation final and contributed nine points with her ninth-place finish. She posted a score of 240.85.
Olivia Winslow (23 rd, 203.85) and Carleigh Schilssel (197.55) also competed in the event for the Rams.
Sophomore
Rylee Kelly had Rhode Island's top individual finish in the swimming events on the second day of the championship, placing 18th in the 500-yard freestyle. Her time of 4:59.64 was just .44 seconds behind George Mason's Kristen Ivey for the final spot in the consolation final of the event. Kelly was the second alternate for the consolation final but did not wind up advancing to the Friday evening session.
Mia Bonvissuto placed 29th in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:05.77. Also competing in the event for the Rams were
Addi Wood (38th, 5:07.72) and
Emma Lee (43rd; 5:09.96).
In the 200-yard individual medley,
Sarah Koenig was Rhode Island's top finisher, placing 24th out of 55 swimmers. Rhode Island had three swimmers bunched close together, as Koenig (2:07.02) was 24th,
Julianna Tyler was 26th (2:07.22) and
Hannah Benavides was 27th (2:07.43). Also competing in the event were
Kelsey McMenemy (38th; 2:10.89) and
Casey Fusco (47th; 2:13.23).
Rhode Island had seven competitors in the 50-yard freestyle field of 84 for the event.
Megan Huntley (40th; 24.14) and
Avery Potyrala (41st; 24.18) led the URI contingent.
Abby Zadorozny (t-47th; 24.32),
Ella Hacker (50th; 24.60),
Casey Fusco (53rd; 24.73),
Mackenzie Thomas (58th; 24.93) and
Anna Bodycoat (26.40) also participated.
In the final event of the evening, the Rams team of
Megan Huntley,
Ella Hacker,
Abby Zadorozny and
Avery Potyrala finished 11th in the 200 freestyle relay, netting 12 points for URI.
With the championship at the midpoint, George Washington is significantly ahead of the rest of the field with 330 points. Richmond (180.5) and Duquesne (160) are the next closest. Rhode Island (67 points) is in 10th place for the second straight day, one spot ahead of Saint Louis. The Billikens are in last place with 58 points.
