Rams Post Highest Score in Seven Years at A10 Championship

HAMPTON, Va. – Rhode Island had its best team score in seven years at the Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championship, finishing with 148 points. It was URI's best team performance since it scored 162 points during the 2017-18 conference meet.

For the second straight day, junior Hannah Benavides had the team's top individual performance with a seventh-place finish in the 200 breaststroke. Her performance added 12 points for URI's team total.

Rhody got a combined 10 points from freshman Julianna Tyler and sophomore Ella Hacker in the 200 butterfly. Tyler had the fastest time in the consolation final, posting a time of 2:00.59. She scored nine points with a ninth-place finish. She was the top freshman in the event, which featured three graduate students and two seniors in the top eight. Hacker placed 16th with her time of 2:06.19.

Freshman Addi Wood provided a 13th place finish in the 1650 freestyle. She finished in a time of 17:19.49 was less than a second behind Fordham's Ellen Brooks (17:18.88). Wood was the third fastest freshman in the event, trailing only George Washington's Zoe Schneider (16:20.36) and George Mason's Kristen Ivey (17:10.59). Wood scored four team points for Rhode Island.

In the 200 backstroke, Maddie Tetreault placed 30th in the field of 52 swimmers. Her time of 2:05.04 was the fastest of five Rams in the event. There others were Sarah Koenig (35 th, 2:06.50), Kelsey McMenemy (38th, 2:07.22), Jackie Triglia (41st, 2:10.21) and Anna Bodycoat (2:14.04).

In the 100 freestyle, Mia Bonvissuto led the Rams with a 27th-place finish in a time of 51.83 seconds. Megan Huntley (34th, 52.02), Rylee Kelly (37th, 52.17), Avery Potyrala (41st, 52.55) and Abby Zadorozny (54th, 53.85) were among the 66-woman field.

George Washington ran away with the team title, scoring 890 points. It was more than 400 points ahead of second-place Richmond (470). Rhode Island placed 10th in the team standings, snapping a string of five straight last-place finishes.
