RHODE ISLAND VS. TOWSON - SERIES NOTES
- Rhode Island and Towson are meeting for the first time.
- Towson's Associate Head Coach Parfait Bitee played for Rhode Island from 2004-08 and was the team's starting point guard.Â
- One of his coaches at URI was current Towson Head Coach Pat Skerry. Skerry was an assistant coach on Jim Baron's staff for three seasons from 2005-08.
- The winner between Rhode Island-Towson will play the winner of Liberty-Vermont on Tuesday at 12 p.m.
- The losers of both games will play Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.
RHODE ISLAND VS. LIBERTY - SERIES NOTES
- Rhode Island and Liberty would be meeting for the first time if they are matched up on the second day of the tournament.
- The Flames entered the week with a 4-0 record and are coming off a 28-7 campaign in 2024-25.
- Liberty is the defending Conference USA champion and earned a No. 12 seed in last year's NCAA Championship, falling to No. 5 Oregon in the opening round.
- Head coach Ritchie McKay is in his second stint running the program. He was the head coach for the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons before going to Virginia as an assistant coach for six years.
- McKay returned in 2015-16 and has eight 20-win seasons over the last 11 years.
- He has a career record of 441-292 in 24 seasons as a head coach, which includes stops at Portland State (1996-98); Colorado State (1998-2000); Oregon State (2000-02); and New Mexico (2002-07).
RHODE ISLAND VS. VERMONT - SERIES NOTES
- Rhode Island and Vermont have met 48 times previously.
- The Rams hold a decided 41-7 edge in the series.
- Despite being longtime New England rivals in the early days of their respective histories, the teams have only played twice since 1976.
- The most recent meeting was 76-66 victory for Rhode Island on Dec. 1, 2012. Before that, it was a 94-56 Rhody win on Dec. 30, 2003.
- From 1953-54 through 1975-76, the teams met twice each year as members of the Yankee Conference.Â
MILLER ONE WIN AWAY FROM 250 CAREER WINSÂ
- Rhode Island head coach Archie Miller has a career record of 249-177, leaving him one win shy of 250.
- Now in his 13th season as a head coach, Miller has six 20-win seasons.
- He won 139 games with Dayton from 2011-17 and 67 games at Indiana from 2017-21.
- Thus far with URI he has 43 victories.
- Miller has at least one victory over 119 different teams during his career.
- Monday will be his 100th game with Rhode Island, and his first time facing Towson in his career.Â
RAMS DEFENSE IS STEALING THE SHOW
- Rhode Island entered the weekend ranking 12th in the nation and first in the Atlantic 10 with 12.0 steals per game.
- The Rams have recorded at least eight steals in every contest, with a season-high 17 against Stonehill on Nov. 11.
- Last season, the Rams reached 10 steals three times in 31 games, and they never had more than 10 in a game.
- This has helped Rhode Island outscore its opponents 127-63 in points off turnovers thus far.
