RHODE ISLAND VS. UCONN - SERIES NOTES

  • The Rams are back at the URI Soccer Complex to host Connecticut Thursday night.
  • Rhody welcomes the Huskies winning its last two matches, shutting out both Bryant and Providence.
  • In both shutouts, the Rams won 2-0.
  • URI's 5-1 start is the best start for the program since 2000. 
  • Connecticut has won all 10 meetings in the all-time series. A win Thursday would be the first in program history for the Rams against the Huskies.
  • The teams met a season ago on Sept. 8, 2024. UConn defeated Rhody 3-1.
  • In the all-time series against Connecticut, the Rams haven't scored more than one goal in a match. Over the last three games, Rhody is averaging 2.0 goals per game.
  • It's the first trip to the URI Soccer Complex for the Huskies since Oct. 30, 1993.
  • Head coach Megan Jessee played at Connecticut from 2002-06, making three NCAA Tournament appearances and a three time BIG EAST champion.   

SCOUTING THE HUSKIES

  • Connecticut enters Thursday's game winning its last match against Yale, 1-0.
  • On the road this season, UConn is 1-1-1.
  • The Huskies have scored three goals through their first five games. Anaya Johnson, Chioma Okafor, and Kaitlyn Richins each have found the back of the net for Connecticut this season. 
  • Ava Yamas has started in all five matches between the posts for UConn. She has 10 saves on the season.

HOME SWEET HOME

  • Rhode Island has won its first three matches at the URI Soccer Complex to start the season.
  • It's the first time Rhody's started 3-0 in Kingston since 2012. The Rams were 4-0 to start the season that year.
  • The last two wins at home have been shutouts.
  • Last year, the Rams went 6-2-1 on home turf.
 

CARSTENSEN CAME TO PLAY

  • Last time out, Rhody captain Mie Carstensen turned in her first career multi-goal game, finding the back of the net twice to lead the Rams to win over Bryant. 
  • The win was Rhody's third of the year at home and fifth on the season.
  • It's the third goal of the year for the Memphis transfer, who made her Rhody debut last season.
