KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island and Vermont will go head-to-head Saturday in the Tootell Aquatic Center starting at 10:30 a.m.
It will be the 16th consecutive season the teams go head-to-head, and the second time this year Rhody and the Catamounts see each other. In November, Vermont won the nine-team Harold Anderson Invitational held in Kingston. URI placed third at the event.
Series History - Rhode Island vs. Vermont
- Rhode Island and Vermont have met 26 times, with each side winning 13 of the meetings.
- The Catamounts have won the last five times the schools have met, including a 168-127 victory a year ago.
- Rhody last won in the 2019-20, the latter half of back-to-back victories for the Rams in the series.
- Vermont has not competed in a pool since the Harold Anderson Invitational at URI in November.
- The Catamounts did have seven individuals compete at the CSCAA Open Water Championship in Sarasota, Fla. on Dec. 13. However, that was a 5k outdoor race that did not feature the entire team.
- At the Harold Anderson Invitational in November, Vermont set three facility records. The 200-yard medley relay team of Natalie Schick, Ellie Fazio, Jessica Drozdowski and Havana Layton won the event in a time of 1:42.69.
- The 400 freestyle relay team of Anastazja Szukala, Michaela Grace Miller, Izzy Macheel and Katie Lester set the facility record with a time of 3:27.07.
- Amy Kentworthy set the Tootell Aquatic Center record in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 16:54.67.
Rhode Island Notes
- Saturday is one of two home meets remaining this season for Rhode Island.
- The Rams host Central Connecticut State on Saturday, Jan. 24.
- Diver Olivia Winslow has won 13 of the 14 events she has competed in this season.
- She is unbeaten in seven meets in the 1-meter dive, and she has won six of seven times in the 3-meter dive.
- Winslow set the program record in the 1-meter dive (304.40) at La Salle on Dec. 6, and she set the Tootell Aquatic Center mark in the 3-meter dive (326.60) during the Harold Anderson Invitational.
- Freshman Molly Beckwith has won at least one event at every head-to-head meet Rhode Island has competed in this season.
- Overall she has won nine individual events while also being part of four relay race winners.
- Rhode Island begins competition at the Atlantic 10 Championship one month from today.
