RHODE ISLAND VS. SAINT LOUIS - SERIES NOTES
- Rhody and Saint Louis will meet for the 28th time on Tuesday, with the Billikens up in the series 14-13.
- Saint Louis has won seven in a row in the series, dating back to a 65-54 win for URI on Feb. 2, 2019.
- Rhode Island is 6-5 in the Ryan Center against the Billikens.
- Saint Louis comes to Kingston riding an 18-game winning streak, the second longest active streak in the country. Only Miami (Ohio) has a longer streak at 25 games.
- The Billikens ranks among the best teams in the country on both ends of the floor. Saint Louis enters the week leading the nation in field goal defense (36.3 percent) while also ranking third nationally in field goal percentage (52.0 percent).
- Saint Louis does not give up many second-chance opportunities, leading the country with 31.24 defensive rebounds per game.
- Offensively, the Billikens lead the Atlantic 10 and are fourth in the country with 90.8 points per game.
- It is a very balanced effort, as Saint Louis does not have any players among the top 20 in scoring in the Atlantic 10, but it has seven different players averaging 9.6 points.
- Robbie Avila (12.4 points/game), Trey Green (12.1), Dion Brown (10.8), Amari McCottry (10.7) and Quentin Jones (10.2) all average double figures. Ishan Sharma (9.7) and Kellen Thames (9.6) are just shy of 10 points per game.
- Green is one of the nation's best 3-point shooters, hitting 47.2 percent of his attempts from the arc.
SAINT LOUIS IS PULLING RANK
- Saint Louis is ranked in both national polls, coming in to Kingston ranked No. 18 in the Associated Press Top 25 and No. 19 in the USA Today Coaches Top 25.
- It has been nearly six years since a nationally ranked team came to the Ryan Center.
- The last time Rhode Island hosted a ranked team was March 4, 2020 when then-No. 3 Dayton visited.
- That game featured the Toppin brothers playing against each other, as Dayton had Obi Toppin and Rhode Island had Jacob Toppin.
- Dayton won the game, 84-57.
- Rhody is looking to snap an eight-game skid against nationally-ranked teams.
- URI's last top 25 victory was a 75-74 win over No. 20 Seton Hall at Barclays Center on Nov. 23, 2017.Â
- Jared Terrell hit a running jumper off the glass with five seconds on the clock to lift Rhody to the win at the NIT Season Tip-Off.
COCHRAN CONTINUES HIS SCORING SURGE
- Wing Tyler Cochran has scored 24 or more points in each of his last three games, and he has topped 20 five times in his last six games.
- Overall, he has scored 17 or more points in eight straight games.
- Since Jan. 10, he has raised his season scoring average from 11.8 points per game to 15.1 points per game.
- He leads the Atlantic 10 in scoring for conference-only games with 18.3 points per game.
