Sebastian Thomas and David Green are two of Rhode Island's team captains for the 2024-25 season. Throughout the remainder of the season, they will team up on Captain's Corner, a blog for GoRhody.com that will take fans behind the scenes. Thomas and Green will each provide weekly updates.
WHAT THE GAME MEANS (Feb. 11, 2025)
By Sebastian Thomas
Basketball means everything to me. I grew up with the game because my family was always really into it. For me, I always looked up to the people in my family who played basketball and took it from there.
I have been playing basketball ever since I was 4 years old. It's one of the biggest pieces of my life. It means everything, and I don't know what I would be doing if

REPRESENTING RHODE ISLAND (Feb. 19, 2025)
By David Green
When it comes to representing Rhode Island basketball, one of the most things is being a hard worker who is giving it their best at all times. You want to give your teammates something they can judge you from, an example of how...Â

EVERYONE SHOULD MEET DRISSAÂ (March 6, 2025)
By David Green and Sebastian Thomas
Junior forward Drissa Traore is in his first season with Rhode Island after transferring from St. John's. The affable big man was chosen as a team captain by his teammates and coaches, and from our point of view, it's easy to see why.
ST: I first got to know Drissa during summer workouts. The first thing that stuck out to me was his energy that he brings every single day. He is always...

FINDING MY TRUE SELF
By David Green
As I look ahead to our Senior Day tomorrow, I feel grateful to be able to play the game I love while also getting a college education. For as long as I've been in the game, I've been able to meet so many different people, visit so many places and experience so many different things.
Through all the ups and downs, I am glad that God brought...

MENTALITY OF SUCCESS
By Sebastian Thomas
When it comes to basketball, a lot of winning comes down to the mental side of the game. Having a winning mentality going into games and even practices is really important. You have to try and take that winning mindset if you are going to accomplish what you need to accomplish.
When it comes down to the key stretches in games, you want to make sure mentally you are in the right place, thinking about the right things.
Practice is hard, and a lot of us don't like practice. But when you come in with the right mindset, the goal is to try and win the day. When the energy is right...

READY TO MAKE NOISE
By David Green
When it comes to the conference championship, you have to treat it differently because every game could be your last. It requires more oomph and more attention to detail.
I look at this as an opportunity to shock people and to take things further. We haven't had the best run in conference play. But starting this week, it doesn't really matter what you did in conference play. Once the tournament hits...

Damone King and Bassy (Video)
By Sebastian Thomas
As part of my internship this semester, I'm learning various forms of communication. As often as I have been interviewed over the years, I have never been the person interviewing someone else. DK (Damone King) did a great job answering the questions, and I think you'll enjoy learning a little bit about him.
DK (Damone King) is a guy with a bright future ahead of him. He redshirted for our team this season, but watching his game grow throughout the season was impressive. His work helped us as a program, and his own game grew as well.

What Comes Next? (March 19, 2025)
By David Green
Our basketball season has been over for a few days now, so it has obviously given me more time to think about the next steps. For me, that means talking with agents and deciding what agent would be best to sign up.
At the same time, I have to continue working out on my own to keep getting better as a player. My focus is moving forward and preparing for the next steps in my career.
Everything is now on my own. I've been doing that for years though, especially when I am back home in...
Drissa and Bassy (VIDEO)
By Sebastian Thomas
I'm used to being the person answering the questions, so this was another chance to turn the tables and be on the other side of the conversation. Having Drissa Traore as a teammate has made me a better person because of what I have learned from him.
That said, it's pretty cool to find out how much more you can learn about someone when you really sit down with them. Drissa has a great perspective on life. The way he approaches his relationships with the people around him says so much about who he is away from basketball.
Hope you enjoy our conversation.Â
