Marta Baumann swept the diving events for Rhode Island, continuing her outstanding senior campaign for the Rams.
She won the 1-meter dive with a score of 272.55 to record her fifth victory in the event in six competitions this season. Rhode Island took the top five spots in the event, as Carly Schlissel,
Lily Hsu,
Willow Dunster and
Brianna Tocco helped the Rams outscore Vermont 16-3 in the event.
In the 3-meter dive, Baumann had a score of 261.60 for her second win in the event this year.
Olivia Winslow (255.53) and Hsu (253.73) were just behind her in the event, and Tocco added a fourth-place finish as the Rams again had a 16-3 edge in the event.
Vermont won the overall meet, 171-126 as the Catamounts won 13 swimming events.
Standouts from the Pool
- Sophomore Hannah Benavides and junior Mackenzie Thomas finished second and third in the 100 breaststroke.
- Freshman Ella Hacker and sophomore Jackie Triglia did the same in the 200 butterfly.
- Hacker later placed second in the 100 butterfly
- In the 50 freestyle, it was freshman Abby Zadorozny and senior Camryn Kruescher offering the second- and third-place finish for Rhode Island.
- Freshman Rylee Kelly was second in the 1,000-yard freestyle with her personal-best time of 10:45.22.
- Junior Mia Bonvissuto gave the Rams a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle.
- Senior Aimee Garcia contributed second-place finished in both the 200 breaststroke and the 200 Individual medley.
- The team of Julia Renna, Mackenzie Thomas, Ella Hacker and Abby Zadorozny was second in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:59.23.
What's Next
Rhode Island closes out the regular season with a meet at Central Connecticut State next Saturday, Jan. 21. The meet begins at 2 p.m.
