Day 3 - Results
HAMPTON, Va. – Junior
Hannah Benavides had Rhode Island's best finish of the 2024 Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championship, qualifying for the championship final and placing sixth Friday night.
Racing with the top eight in the final, Benavides posted a time of 1:02.52, providing Rhode Island with 13 team points. She was just .14 seconds behind fifth-place finisher Julia Knox of George Washington. GW's Ava DeAngelis won the event with a championship-record time of 59.75 seconds.
The top six finishers in the event were all juniors.
Mackenzie Thomas (22nd, 1:06.31) and
Casey Fusco (31st, 1:09.97) also competed in the event for the Rams.
Freshman
Julianna Tyler gave Rhode Island a second scoring finish on the day. She qualified for the consolation final of the 400 individual medley and placed 10th overall with a time of 4:23.48. The performance added seven points to the URI team score.
Maddie Tetreault finished 19th in the 400 IM with a time of 4:32.67, just two spots ahead of teammate
Sarah Koenig (4:33.83).
Emma Lee was just two spots behind Koenig with her time of 4:36.98.
Addi Wood placed 28th in the field of 33 with a time of 4:39.73.
In the final event of the night, Rhode Island placed ninth in the 400-yard medley relay. The team of

Hannah Benavides,
Ella Hacker and
Mia Bonvissuto edged La Salle at the wall. Rhody's time of 3:47.45 was .06 seconds ahead of the Explorers. As a result, URI scored 18 team points in the event, compared to 14 for La Salle.
Mia Bonvissuto just missed a spot in the consolation final of the 200 freestyle. She was the first alternate, placing 17 th in a time of 1:51.87, just .05 seconds behind Richmond's Carstyn Klosterman for the final spot. Other Rams in the 200 freestyle were

Megan Huntley (30th, 1:54.10),
Avery Potyrala (40th, 1:55.70) and
Cate Carboni (2:02.26).
Ella Hacker was Rhode Island's top finisher in the 100 butterfly, placing 26th with a time of 56.87 seconds. Teammate
Jackie Triglia was one spot behind her in a time of 56.93. Other Rhody competitors in the event were
Jenna Salem (28th; 56.95) and
Abby Zadorozny (44th; 58.79).
In the 100 backstroke,
Jackie Triglia led the Rhody contingent by placing 30th with a time of 57.24 seconds.
Kelsey McMenemy (41st, 59.58),
Jenna Salem (42nd, 1:00.02) and
Anna Bodycoat (1:01.63) were also in the field of 59 swimmers.
With one day remaining, George Washington has all but clinched its fourth straight team title and seventh in the last eight years. The Revolutionaries have 538.5 point, more than 200 ahead of second-place Richmond with 306.5. Fordham (295), Duquesne (276.5) and Davidson (205.5) round out the top five.
La Salle (112.5) and Rhode Island (105) both scored 38 points on Friday, keeping the Explorers 7.5 points in front of the Rams for ninth place in the team standings. Both schools are well ahead of last-place Saint Louis (72) heading to the final day of the championship.
