KINGSTON, R.I. - A meet that was tight throughout went the way of visiting Northeastern, as the Huskies held off Rhode Island 156-143 in the Tootell Aquatic Center Saturday.
Rhode Island held a slight lead through eight events after
Olivia Winslow and
Emily Whiteneck placed first and second in the 1-meter diving event. However, Northeastern won the next three events - the 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke and the 200-yard breaststroke to establish a lead the Rams were unable to overcome.
Rylee Kelly and
Mary McCormick gave Rhody some momentum with a 1-2 finish in the 500-yard freestyle, but Rhode Island was unable to complete the full comeback.
Standouts from the Pool
- The team of Lily Mair, Maddy Deeney, Molly Beckwith and Emma Raser had Rhode Island off to a strong start with a win in the 200-yard medley relay. Their time of 1:48.61 won by 0.39 seconds.
- For the second straight meet, Olivia Winslow won both the 1- and 3-meter diving events. She won the 1-meter with a score of 281.63 and the 3-meter with a score of 282.50.
- Molly Beckwith led a 1-2-3 finish in the 200-yard freestyle with her winning time of 1:54.06. Rylee Kelly (1:56.31) and Mary McCormick (1:56.66) were right behind her at the wall.
- Kelly (5:07.99) and Kelly (5:009.73) placed first and second, respectively, in the 500-yard freestyle.
- Julianna Tyler won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:08.87.
- The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Molly Beckwith, Lily Mair, Avery Potyrala and Emma Raser won final event of the meet with a time of 3:34.52.
