RHODE ISLAND VS. DAVIDSON - SERIES NOTES
- Friday's series opener will be the 22nd game all-time in the history between Rhode Island and Davidson, which dates back to 1985.
- Rhody owns an 11-10 advantage over the Wildcats, an effort that was boosted by a nine-game winning streak between the 2015-17 campaigns.Â
- Since URI's streak was snapped, Davidson has gone 8-2.Â
- The Rams took one-of-three from the 'Cats a season ago, securing the opening game 7-5 before falling in Saturday and Sunday's meetings.Â
- Down 5-4 in the fifth, a pair of home runs from redshirt junior Addison Kopack and sophomore Anthony DePino, as well as a score from a wild pitch, lifted the team to victory.Â
- The history between the two programs is storied, as Davidson played a crucial role in the Rams' 2016 Atlantic 10 Championship run.Â
- Rhode Island's offense exploded as the team defeated the Wildcats 15-2 in the final game, earning the Rams' first conference crown since 2005.Â
- Current assistant coach Kevin Heiss and Director of Operations Tyler Barss both played on the championship squad that advanced to the Columbia Regional and took a game from South Carolina.
- This weekend's series features two of the top-three teams in the conference. With Saint Louis (22-12, 8-1 A-10) sitting at the top of the league, Davidson and Rhode Island check in at second and third respectively.Â
LAST TIME OUT - CONFERENCE PLAY
- Rhode Island earned a three-game sweep at St. Bonaventure last weekend, marking the team's first over an A-10 opponent since 2021 and URI's first over the Bonnies since 2016.
- Four of the Rams' starters hit over .400 in the three-game set. Both redshirt senior Billy Butler and redshirt junior Alex Ramirez slashed .429, while sophomore Eric Genther and redshirt sophomore Rob Butler hit .417.Â
- Sophomore Anthony DePino also had a strong weekend, chipping in a pair of home runs to go along with a team-best six RBI.
- Freshman Braeden Perry, who entered the series as the reigning A-10 Rookie of the Week, pitched his second quality start in as many appearances. He was tagged with just one run in 6.0 innings on Sunday afternoon en route to improving his season record to 3-3. Â
THE ROOKIES
- Freshmen Michael Anderson and Braeden Perry have been making themselves known within the conference in their first year suiting up for the Rams.
- Anderson has already been named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week twice, while Perry recently received the nod for the first time.Â
- A Havertown, Pa. native, Anderson has started every game at first base and leads the team in both RBI (27) and doubles (12).Â
- Anderson had a career-best four hits - including two home runs - in URI's 15-4 win at Mercer on Feb. 26.
- Perry received the weekly nod after pitching 7.0 scoreless innings in a Sunday start at Fordham.
- The North Kingstown, R.I. native struck out five Rams and scattered two hits before leaving the game without a decision.Â
- He has given up just one earned run through his past 13.0 innings on the bump, recording back-to-back quality starts in the spread.Â
