ANNE KELSEN ('94) was a star two-sport athlete at Rhode Island playing both basketball and softball, earning first-team All-Atlantic 10 honors in both sports. Kelsen was a standout softball player, earning Atlantic 10 Player of the Year as a senior in 1994, along with being named a second-team All-American by the National Softball Coaches Association. She was a two-time first-team All-Atlantic 10 selection and earned All-New England honors in 1993 and 1994. Kelsen led the nation in home runs per at-bat in 1994, and led the Rams to the Atlantic 10 Championship for only the third time in team history, earning all-tournament honors. She holds the school's career and single-season records in hits, stolen bases, doubles, runs scored, total bases and home runs. She is second all-time in career batting average (.330) with the highest single-season average (.425) in school history. She holds single-season records in hits, stolen bases, doubles, runs scored, at-bats, home runs, total bases and batting average. Kelsen earned All-Atlantic 10 honors in basketball, making the women's basketball team as a walk-on in her freshman year and earning a full-scholarship after the first week of practice. She went on to become a four-year starter for the Rams, finishing her career third on the school's all-time list with 1,347 points. She ended her career as the all-time assists leader with 370, and still sits second all-time in assists and fourth in points. Kelsen earned third-team All-Atlantic 10 honors as a junior and made first-team All-Atlantic 10 as a senior. She earned a B.S. in microbiology and currently does research in the DNA Lab at Arizona State.
