Anderson spent 31 years as a coach and administrator. The first Cross Country and Women's Track & Field coach for URI, she led the teams for 15 years from 1977-1992 and earned New England Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year in 1990 and New England Cross Country Coach of the Year in 1987. Anderson was Associate Director of Athletics and Senior Woman Administrator from 1992-2003 and was promoted to Senior Associate Director of Athletics from 2003-08. She served on countless committees nationally, paving the way for opportunities for females in collegiate athletics. Among her career accolades, Anderson has received the James Lynch Distinguished Achievement Award and the Katherine Ley Lifetime Achievement Award from the ECAC. She was the Div. I-AA Administrator of the Year for the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators (2005), and in 1989 she was inducted into the New Agenda-Northeast Women's Hall of Fame.
