WILLIAM M.H. "BILL" BECK was both coach and educator during a long and distinguished career. He was a professor of physical education for men and coach of the football and baseball teams at the University of Rhode Island, from which he retired in 1960 after 29 years (1931-60). The Bill Beck Memorial Baseball Field was dedicated in his honor on May 12, 1966. During his collegiate career he was a star athlete at Providence College. A member of the State of Rhode Island Heritage Hall of Fame, he was a skier of national renown, and helped develop his son, Bill, into an Olympic skiing competitor.
