JASON GAILES ('92) was a member of the Rhode Island men's club rowing team during his four years in Kingston and credits his experience in Kingston with helping him reach the medal stand at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. Gailes joined the men's club team in 1988 and was part of two runner-up finishes in the men's four at the Dad Vail Regatta in 1988 and 1992. He was also a New England champion in the men's four. In 1993, Gailes made the U.S. National Rowing Team and was a member of the 1996 U.S. Olympic team, helping the U.S. to a silver medal in the quadruple sculls. As a member of the U.S. National Team, he also was part of a sixth-place finish in quadruple sculls at the 1995 World Rowing Championship, a ninth-place finish at the 1993 World Rowing Championships and a 13th-place finish in the double sculls at the 1994 World Championships. In 1996, he was named U.S. Rowing Magazine's Athlete of the Year and was the U.S. National Rowing Team's Most Valuable Rower. Gailes earned a gold and silver medal at the 1994 Goodwill Games in St. Petersburg, Russia, a silver medal at the 1994 Pan Am Games in Mar del Plata, Argentina, and was a three-time National Champion. He currently lives in San Francisco, Calif. where he works at Lehman Brothers as a vice president of institutional equity sales.
