CHESTER S. JAWORSKI '39, one of the outstanding basketball players of his era, was an All-American in 1939 as the nation's leading scorer. He received the Helms Foundation award as outstanding player in the United States. A three-year letterman in basketball, he was also captain for two years. He won three more letters in baseball and served as captain of that team as well, and also lettered in football. He coached and played on many championship teams, won the Besser-Lindsay award for academics and athletics from the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, and was All-New England. He began a career as a teacher and administrator in 1940 and earned his master's in 1969 from Rhode Island State College. He served as director of health and physical education and as assistant principal in Hicksville, N.Y.
