LOUISEANNETTE PLATT WRIGHT '43 played field hockey, basketball, tennis, and rifle at Rhode Island from 1939-43, serving as captain of the rifle team. She was elected president of the Women's Athletic Association in 1942 and was selected best co-ed athlete in her senior class. She enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserve in 1943, was commissioned an ensign in 1944 and was released from active duty as a lieutenant three years later. She earned a law degree from Boston University in 1949 and joined the regular Navy that year, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Commander before retiring in 1966. A world traveler, she was elected to two terms with the Groton, Connecticut, Town Council and worked part-time with the State's General Assembly for 17 years.
