ROBERT M. MUDGE '37 retired as principal of Westerly Senior High after 16 years in that post and 22 years as school administrator. A seven-letterman in football, baseball, and track at Rhode Island in the mid-to-late 30s, he captained both the football and baseball teams as one of the finest all-around athletes in Rhode Island State College history. He was Westerly baseball coach for 20 years and football coach there for eight years. He was singled out for the Rhode Island White Sweater award as a member of the first football team ever to defeat Brown University in 1935. A member of the Providence Gridiron Club Hall of Fame and past director of the Westerly Lions Club, he was active in civic and fraternal affairs in his hometown of Westerly.
