JOHN B. "BRUCE" BLOUNT '50 starred in basketball and baseball at Rhode Island State College in the late 40s and early 50s, and was an All-East and All-Conference performer in basketball. The twenty-first highest scorer in Rhode Island hoop history at the time of his induction, with 1,163 career points, he won eight varsity letters and held the all-time Rhode Island Interscholastic League basketball scoring record of 66 points in a single game. He distinguished the U.S. Army and his alma mater in 1954 when he made a national television appearance during the famed Army-McCarthy hearings. A career U.S. Army officer, he retired as Lieutenant General. He is a member of the State of Rhode Island Heritage Hall of Fame.
