CHARLES J. "JIGGER" LAZAREK '30, a two-sport star at Rhode Island State College in the late 1920s, won six letters in baseball and football and was football co-captain in 1929. Generally recognized as the finest football center in Rhode Island athletic history, he was also a standout catcher in baseball. Lazarek earned high praise from the legendary Frank Keaney, who called him "the only player I ever coached who knew more about football than I did." He was an engineering graduate of Rhode Island State College and retired as regional manager of the Narragansett Electric Company.
