LISA J. MURPHY '82, a stalwart outfielder for Rhode Island softball teams from 1978-82, played every inning of every game for four years and was a member of the first URI softball team to qualify for the National Championships, when the Rams earned an invitation to the 1982 AIAW Championship in Norman, Oklahoma. Named to the All-State Tournament team and All-New England All-Star squad, she was the team's clean-up hitter and finished among the team leaders in batting average and RBI's. In 1982 and 1983 she was selected to play with the semi-professional national champion Raybestos Brakettes. In both of those years she also participated in the National Sports Festival, twice earning silver medals.
