HERMAN H. "BUTCH" BROWN JR. '84, a standout on Rhode Island indoor and outdoor track teams from 1980-84, was the Yankee Conference champion seven times in the 800- and 1,000-meter runs and won the IC4A Championship in the 1,000 meter. During his collegiate career, Brown earned All-America recognition in 1981 and again in 1984 in the 800-meter run. A two-time Olympic Trial qualifier (1984 and 1988), he was a member of the Indoor National Teams in 1985 and 1987. He was a mathematics teacher in the Alexandria,Virginia, public school system. In addition, he served as the assistant cross-country, indoor track and outdoor track coach at T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, where the school won the state championship six times during his tenure.
