DANIEL J. MCCRUDDEN '78 starred in soccer for Rhode Island from 1974-77, leading the team in scoring all four years. He became URI's first soccer All-American in 1977 and was a four-time All-Yankee Conference and All-New England selection. He was named one of the outstanding college athletes of America in 1975 and to Who's Who Among College Students in 1977. At the time of his induction, he held the school record for most goals scored in a game (7) against Boston College in 1975. McCrudden was a first-round pick (16th overall) by the Chicago Sting of the NASL in 1978 and played professionally for six seasons. After being named to the ASL All-Star team in 1980, he was nominated for a 1980 Olympic Team tryout.
