STEPHEN R. FURNESS '72, who earned 12 letters as a football and track star at URI, went on to a superlative professional football career, playing in four Super Bowls as a member of the famed Pittsburgh Steeler "Steel Curtain" defense. He later became a very successful defensive line coach at Michigan State University.
